CPL, simple theory and usage for dummy

This add-on article is just a simple explanation on WHAT and HOW to use the CPL in daily life.

BASIC theory:
Natural light rays with wave propagate at all directions. Reflected light rays with wave propagate at 1 direction only. CPL consists of very very tiny parallel lines so that all light rays propagate perpendicular to these lines will be blocked by the CPL.

That simple? Yes it is!

Usage:
1) The humidity and water particles in the air reflect light and reduce contrast. Polarizer tries to reduce these reflections of lights so as to cut down on atmosphere reflections and hazy effects caused by humidity. The "blue" and "vivid green" colors are in fact the original colors of the subject!

2) When you take pictures behind the window you'll be blocked by the reflection of images in the window. Polarizer can block these reflections and remove these images in the window.

HOW-TO:
1) The ring that moves when you twist it changes the effect of the polarization, basically it adjusts the degree. It works best when your camera is pointed perpendicular to the sun (at a 90 degree angle).

2) If you take the object behind the window, it'll have the greatest effect if you take it at 45 degree with the window. You should see the changing effects in the viewfinder when moving the ring.

3) It is the best to take off the UV filter / protector filter before using CPL in ANY cases. Additional ghosts may be introduced to the final image if you forget to do so!
